Dad Of The Month!
Anthony Newman
Where do you live? We make our home in Oregon, where our children attend an excellent private school. We stay busy volunteering and coaching in our community.
What is your profession? After retiring from 12 years in the NFL, I had to stay involved with sports to some capacity. Coaching was not an option, because of the tremendous hours away from the family. Instead, I began a company called Xtreme Sport Camps. We run a variety of sport camps for kids, ages 6 to 18. I also broadcast for a radio station in Portland, Oregon 750 KXL during the University of Oregon Football season.
What do you drive? A machine that gets bad gas mileage and makes too much noise! Ha ha ha! It’s time for a new car.
What are you reading? I’m reading “The Serving Leader” by Ken Jennings and John Stahl-Wert. I like reading about people who are self-motivated and that have leadership qualities.
What music are you listening to? The majority of the time, I’m in the car with my kids- So they out number me when it comes to the music selection.
What's the last movie you saw? We saw Untraceable with Diane Lane. It was pretty cool watching this movie they filmed in Portland, Oregon. During the movie my wife and I kept saying, “Oh look, that’s the Justice Center, the Broadway Bridge, Rose Garden and so on and so on.
How long have you been married? Going on 16 years and getting stronger by the day. If I didn’t have my wife by my side, I don’t know where I would be today.
Kids names and ages?
Larry Moe and Curly :) One elementary, one middle school and one high school
Describe your favorite family vacation? This is easy – Disney World. We took a family vacation to Disney World about two years ago and my kids had a blast. We plan to go back during Christmas break in the near future.
Your thoughts on being a Dad? It’s by far the best thing in world. I love being there for them and teaching them new things. It’s pretty amazing watching them grow, not just physically, but intellectually and emotionally. I have such unconditional love for my children. I could keep writing for days about this, but the number one thing for me on being a dad is hearing the words “I Love You Daddy.” There’s nothing like it.
How do you juggle family and work? I’m very lucky to own my business, because it allows me to control my hours and I’m able to be involved in all of my kids activities.
What's your favorite thing to do with your kids? I’m very serious when I say that I simply love to just sit and stare at my children. My wife and I think they are the most beautiful people in the world. The day will come when they move out and begin lives of their own. In the meantime, we get to enjoy their company and stare at our three miracles.
